Serves as the Director of Spirit Programs which includes oversight of Cheer, Dance and Competitive/STUNT Programs by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.
1. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department.
2. Instruct athletes with sound principles and expert skill in skills, training and strategies to achieve success.
3. Establish a competitive STUNT program to be implemented in Spring 2021.
4. Has knowledge of game rules and Conference and NCAA regulations and implements these rules on a consistent basis.
5. Display good sportsmanship in relationship with students, staff, officials and opponents as consistent with NCAA policies regarding the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
6. Motivate team for maximum performance by utilizing motivational philosophies that meet the needs of the students and that are consistent with the CBU Athletic Program philosophy.
7. Students will receive instruction and spiritual guidance that will lead to positive values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline consistent with the philosophy of athletics at CBU.
8. Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations.
9. Assigns assistant coaches specific duties, supervises the assignments, and completes proper evaluation at the end of season.
10. Responsible for submission of yearly budget to Athletic Director and keep current on all team expenditures to ensure compliance with team budget.
11. Works with Sport Supervisor in setting goals and objectives for the Athletic Department. Acts in a wise and prudent manner when the Athletic Director is not available.
12. Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment.
13. Within the framework of CBU, recruit prospective student-athletes who are of the level necessary to be successful academically and athletically.
14. Manage and oversee the Lancer Mascot for games and events.
15. Responsible for the supervision of the team at all practices, training sessions, games, and any other extracurricular activity which is relevant.
16. Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested timeframe and attend all staff meetings.
17. Adhere to all institutional, conference and NCAA by-laws and regulations.
18. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of all team members.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises assistant cheerleading coach, assistant cheerleading coach-game team, and head dance coach and Lancer Mascot employee. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Strong organizational skills and detailed oriented.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of standard budgeting and expenditure control procedures and documentation.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or five to 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous coaching experience at the college level preferred.
